About Me
I am a rising fourth-year Ph.D. student in the Learning Design and Technology Program within the Curriculum and Instruction Department at Purdue University. Prior to this, I spent 15 years as an assistant professor in the English Department at Shanghai Sanda University, where I taught speaking, reading, writing, and listening courses. Additionally, I served as a class counselor, helping students set and achieve personal and academic goals. I also served on the dissertation committee, advising undergraduate students on their research papers.
Currently, I work as a graduate teaching assistant in the Oral English Proficiency Program (OEPP) at Purdue University. In this role, I help graduate students improve their presentation skills and conduct statistical analysis on oral English-speaking tests. I am also a co-instructor for a core course in the LDT online master’s program, “Learning System Design,” in the summer of 2024. This course delves into instructional design processes within a project-based context, focusing on creating effective learning strategies that are motivating, efficient, and impactful. Students gain practical experience in instructional or learning systems design through project work applicable in both classroom and workplace settings.
My research interests lie in the application of virtual reality in language learning, particularly as a pedagogical tool. I am also passionate about situated learning, experiential learning, systems thinking, competency-based education, instructional design, and the role of AI in language learning. I am actively involved in several research groups and have published numerous papers and chapters in these fields. Additionally, I am a member of professional organizations such as AECT and AERA, and have presented at multiple international conferences.
